Deadly Double Accident on Interstate 25

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a female driver named Kendra Durnan met with a fatal accident on Interstate 25 near castle pines. The woman reportedly struck an elk that was running across the highway, at which point she came out of the car only to be struck herself by oncoming traffic almost immediately. The 18-year-old who hails from Buffalo, Minnesota, could not move her car after hitting the elk and thus decided to come out and got hit a second time. The impact was so significant that Durnan’s body was thrown onto the northbound lanes.
According to the CSP, the accident on Interstate 25 involved a total of four vehicles on the highway that smashed one after the other and caused multiple injuries to a total of nine people who had to be transported to the nearest hospital. The fatal accident had occurred on the highway to the south of the happy canyon exit. As a result, the southbound lanes of I – 25 remained closed for hours till the CPS completed their investigations.
Master Trooper Gary Cutler has said that their investigators, at this point, do not believe excessive driving or alcohol to have played any role in the incident.
He noted that Durnan had three other male passengers with her in her vehicle and a total of two parties from two different cars had to have gotten out. The incident was first reported at 12:53 a. m Monday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) reports show that thousands of wildlife incidents happen every year on the roads of Colorado. Most of these incidents only result in injury, and some occasionally result in death. In 2020 alone, the 10 – mile stretch where the accident occurred ranked among the highest number of roadkill incidents in the Denver metro area. Contact us to learn more about accident resolutions.
