One Killed, Pregnant Women Injured in DUI Crash
A DUI accident that took place in Philadelphia has resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to a pregnant woman. The incident took place on the night of Wednesday, May 13. It was reported to the authorities around 9:30 p.m.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the tragic crash happened on Whitaker Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. It involved two vehicles. The driver of one of the vehicles appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The suspected DUI driver was traveling on Whitaker Avenue when he seems to have lost control of the vehicle. His vehicle was identified by the police as an Acura sedan.
As the Acura reached the 4900 blocks of the road, the driver drove into another vehicle. This other vehicle was identified as a Nissan SUV.
After striking the Nissan SUV, the Acura collided into a pole before hitting another two parked vehicles and then coming to a stop. The Acura driver was accompanied by one other passenger at the time of the crash.
The Nissan SUV which was stuck by the Acura also had a driver and a passenger in it at the time of the collision. The driver has been identified by the police as a 30-year-old male. He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene once first responders arrived.
His passenger was identified as a 30-year-old pregnant woman. The woman also sustained serious injuries to her legs and abdomen. She was rushed to the Einstein Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
The Acura driver and his passengers didn’t sustain serious injuries. According to the police, both appeared impaired and a DUI charge is expected to be brought up against the driver who is now under arrest. Possible charges in such a case include homicide by a vehicle which is a second-degree felony in Pennsylvania.
