I-70 Shuts Down Due to Semitrailer Crash
A crash involving a semi-trailer led the Interstate 70 to be partially shut down last Monday. The crash took place just before noon when the semitrailer collided with another vehicle.
According to troopers with the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened at 11:13 a.m. The westbound semitrailer hit another vehicle and then rolled, causing a part of the westbound lane to be blocked. As a result, the police shut down traffic on the westbound lane for an indefinite period. The semitrailer was loaded with hay at the time of the collision. It rolled in a way as to block most of the lanes of the westbound I-70, bringing all traffic to an effective halt.
Fortunately, there were no injuries in the crash. Colorado State Patrol officials requested all drivers to be careful when driving on the westbound lane to avoid posing a road hazard to the help crews working in the area.
The accident takes place as a part of a string of road crashes caused by the inclement weather conditions. A winter storm has taken grip of Colorado, affecting several areas. The road conditions are considered dangerous and the Monday commute is most likely to suffer because of it.
Authorities are advising commuters to head only early in the day to avoid running into accidents. Another accident in Denver earlier this week led to a seven-vehicle pile-up. The crash took place on a curve where road conditions were made dangerous because of the ice and sleet.
The inclement weather is expected to continue for some time. To avoid running into accidents, drivers are advised to hit the roads in the early hours of the day. At the same time, it is important to keep speeds low in view of the difficulty to brake due to adverse road conditions.
